“The Car and Proceeding Crimes”
A short film animated in ToonBoom Harmony for December, 2023 graduation from the Centre for Arts and Technology. Early concept art and designs below!
Behind the Scenes
A little peak at all the work that goes into pulling a project like this together.

The final master layout for The Car.

Seeing the height difference between the two characters was important for animating, but also just very funny to look at.

The first rough design for the car they'd come across. It was going to be based off of a Kia Soul because I thought the shape of them looked funny, but I changed my mind and decided to go with an older car model.

The first drawings I did of Hazel were all doodles in the margins of my class notes; I'm positive there are more than this scattered in old school notebooks.

Hazel's final turnaround. It didn't take a long time to reach as I had started out with a clear idea for her design, and it didn't change much in the process.

I was so close to doing a "deer in the headlights" joke, and this was my rough idea of how I wanted it to look, but for the sake of time it had to be removed.

The first rough sketches of Russell

The second round of rough sketches for Russell. I really liked the tuft of fur on his head and the little fang poking out, but they were ultimately removed to make the design simpler and easier to rig.

The final turnaround for Russell. He was almost given a little fanny pack to wear as a backpack, but since it wasn't a factor in the short film and just an aesthetic choice, it was removed.

The first rough draft for a storyboard, which ended up going through quite a few changes.
